The news out of Nashville for Predators defenseman Roman Josi is about as expected as it can get.

Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports Josi did not skate at the team’s practice this morning and he’s officially out with a concussion. Ryan Ellis is believed to get the call to take his spot in the lineup.

Josi suffered the injury on Friday night in Denver courtesy of a monster hit from Avalanche forward Steve Downie. The hit was ruled to be legal by the NHL Player Safety Board and he went unpunished for the play. He was, however, assessed at two-minute minor for charging.

This turn of events, as Cooper noted in his story, could lead to seeing Seth Jones pair up with Shea Weber. Josi has been his defensive partner since last season after Ryan Suter signed with Minnesota. Jones and Weber did work together a little bit in training camp this year.

Replacing Josi won’t be easy as he’s good for 25 minutes played per game.

NHL Game Center app has no indication of a charging call against Downie on Josi in the boxscore. So, was he or was he not assessed a minor for charging?

Joey, according to ESPN’s boxscore, Downie was assessed 5 minors on Friday: in the 2nd, tripping at :20, charging at 9:21, slashing at 12:10; in the 3rd, double minor roughing at 9:28.

The gamecenter app has Downie down for charging at 9:21 against Bourque. Lol! I should know better than to be looking at the NHL’s own app. It’s not like they have their own personnel are at the games. Wait. They do. :-)

Yes, he got two minutes. Weber got four for standing up for his teammate

“Steve Downie’s hit is the reason”

I’d say Josi not keeping his head up was the reason. But that’s just me.

    Great hit by Downie!

I’m so borderline on the hit. But I’m a Preds fan so I’m biased. Either way the outcome is unfortunate.

I’m an Avs fan who feels the same way. Still, I wish Josi a fast recovery. He’s one of my favorite players, and I’m sad he’s hurt.
