The Vancouver Canucks are still feeling good about themselves -- even after losing two straight, including a 6-3 defeat Tuesday in Dallas that the Stars led, 5-0, after just 21:17.
Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis was asked yesterday on TSN 1040 radio (audio) about the difference between Tuesday’s loss in Dallas and the one the Canucks suffered on March 6 in Dallas, a 6-1 “rock bottom” drubbing that was considered one of the low points of a 2013-14 season that didn’t have many high ones.
“I thought our team was really resilient,” said Hamhuis of Tuesday’s effort. “I’m not saying we weren’t last year*, but...when we were down 3-0, 4-0 our team just kept pushing. I thought that was a really good sign that we just continued to play confidently, and we kept coming at them even though the score was getting away from us a bit. I was really proud of our guys.”
[*He was totally saying that.]
The Canucks ended up out-shooting the Stars, 46-28. And while it was only natural for Dallas to sit back with a big lead, it’s worth noting that Vancouver (3-2-0) has outshot its opponent in all five of its games this season.
Via war-on-ice.com, the Canucks rank fourth in the league in score-close Corsi:
*Yes, it’s still early and sample sizes are small.
**Yes, two of Vancouver’s game were against Edmonton, and another was against Calgary.
The Canucks are in St. Louis tonight for a tough road game against the Blues. They’re in Colorado tomorrow to take on the struggling Avs.
