Sidney Crosby undergoes oral surgery after losing a few teeth

The Pittsburgh Penguins provided an official update on Sidney Crosby: Saturday’s puck to the face prompted oral surgery. He lost a “few teeth,” according to head coach Dan Bylsma.

“Sidney Crosby took a puck to the teeth, and lost a few of those,” Bylsma said. “He lost a few of those. He had to have oral surgery. We’ll continue to evaluate and monitor that. That’s the report on ‘Sid’ going to the hospital and losing teeth.”

It’s hard not to worry about a concussion when any player takes a puck to the general face area, but there’s no word on that. The Penguins didn’t provide specifics about whether he’d miss any time, either.

Here are their next few games to allow you time to consider when he might sit … and who might threaten their 15-game winning streak:

Tuesday: home against Buffalo
Wednesday: at the New York Rangers
Friday: home versus the New York Rangers
Tuesday, April 9: at Carolina

Much like Crosby’s unlucky mouth, the team has some gaps in its schedule, so maybe they’ll decide to give him a little extra time to heal.

I doubt that they really care about the streak. The main thing is to get all the players fully integrated into the game plan. Today’s game against the Islanders looked as though they’ve figured things out on defense pretty well.

Now he looks like the best captain of all time ! In your program #16 Robert Earl Clarke

      • pitpenguinsrulez - Mar 30, 2013 at 11:55 PM

that is too dam funny oh my goodness

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:45 PM

Is it an upper or lower tooth injury ?

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:26 PM

How come PHT hasn’t reported anything on Kunitz hitting from behind on a Islander player that led to him getting a game misconduct ?

  2. rushledger - Mar 30, 2013 at 5:45 PM

    Wishing Sid the absolute best.

    • holeecowman - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:29 PM

he lost a few effing teeth its not like he broke a facking leg or his neck wtf who cares next story

      • steelers88 - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Um let me see he could have broken his jaw he could have suffered a concussion his injury could effect the Penguins chase of the Stanley Cup. It could also effect the whole playoffs for other teams as well. So yeah no big deal.

      • rfoster75 - Mar 31, 2013 at 8:30 AM

this guys is one concussion away from never playing again–a shot to the head with the puck is a big deal to the organization.

  3. eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 30, 2013 at 5:48 PM

He’s missing a few teeth like hockeywithdrawl’s old lady the attraction just got stronger !

      • ironman721 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:41 PM

People take themselves to seriously. It’s just hockey.

      • valoisvipers - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:25 PM

The Pens are on a 15 game win streak yet the Flyers have only 14 wins for the season. Hope the Flyers sink a little deeper so that they can at least have a top 3 draft pick this year.

  6. mclovinhockey - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:18 PM

Eggiles, calm down with the stupid comments. If you want to insult pens fans use intelligent facts. Otherwise you just look like a moron and it gives Philly fans a bad name.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:23 PM

Too late that ship has sailed !

  7. revansrevenant - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:25 PM

Ray Shero is probably in Mario’s office telling him that they need an old priest and a young priest.

  8. holeecowman - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:27 PM

      U mad bro?

    • theageofquarrel - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:46 PM

Oh look everybody!!!! Mushmouth IS alive and well!!!

    • 4hockey - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:43 PM

Ok holeecowman, you really are a #%&*#^ idiot! I tell you what, I think that we should take you out to the rink, line you up and shoot a puck at 90 miles an hour right into YOUR grill! I want to see how you respond. There some players in the NHL that I am not a fan of but if I saw them lose a few teeth, I would still feel compassion for them.

I’m tired of hearing all of this bull !! Sid is a GREAT hockey player! You need to give him credit where credit is due. You don’t have to like him, but a little respect would be nice. How good is your slaps shot?

    • drone501 - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:50 PM

      you are a horses ass.

  9. nicknyhc - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:35 PM

    Is this baseball or hockey?

Honestly, what other hockey player gets multiple stories on PHT about losing a couple teeth? Ridiculous.

…and no one understands why people are sick of this guy.

  10. bru308 - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:40 PM

Well, every time they do write a Crosby article they get 100’s of ignorant comments from the haters (see above) and 100’s of comments from Crosby fans…. So yes, he will continue to get multiple articles per day as long as the hits are way up.

He is the face of the NHL, like it or not. Just judge by the amount of comments this thread will get

  11. northstarnic - Mar 30, 2013 at 6:44 PM

Nice to see our team of oral surgeons has checked in to assess the extent of Sid’s injuries. Thanks for sharing your wisdom, geniuses.

  13. csilojohnson - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:13 PM

A lot of misdirected hate. Why would you people hate someone for the amount of coverage they get? Clearly not something he is doing. Get mad at the news outlet you KEEP checking. He is easily the best player on the planet. Of course he will get constant coverage. Still not close to how many articles about Marc Stall that night. If you dont like all these articles stop reading and posting on them…..Idiots.

  14. dt58 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:14 PM

I’m guessing your family tree has no branches…just one big stump

  15. ibieiniid - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:21 PM

    ill go there…

oral surgery? is that what theyre calling it these days?

  16. 8man - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:32 PM

He doesn’t fight. They should have put a full cage on him to just round out the whole Gretzky label before this happened.

His grill is missing a few chicklets. He’ll live. But now he’ll look like he plays hockey.

  17. Stiller43 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:38 PM

No other player is the best player in the league, either. Additionally, every story of him drives tons of traffic, page hits, comments (mostly from people saying he sucks, he’s gay, or he’s a woman…we have very intelligent commenters here that like to act like theyre at recess when theyre 7…and gay, woman, sucks, i’ll take it because he’s better than anything on your team), etc…so yeah, sorry jeff halpern doesnt get more pub.

  18. jburrell4 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:41 PM

Now that Cindy is missing a few teeth, Mario is less at risk for injury…

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:59 PM

In my best Terry Bradshaw accent Now That’s FunnA !

      • whammy71 - Mar 30, 2013 at 9:00 PM

Jealous of the Pens… jealous of the Steelers. You might as well just move here and start cheering for the teams you truly love!

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 30, 2013 at 9:06 PM

I think Terry Bradshaw is awesome

  19. Stiller43 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:41 PM

And btw ovi got an article for getting some stitches in his chin when he got hit IN PRACTICE. If you dont think the best player in the game taking a puck to the face and not returning to a game during a historical streak isnt at least newsworthy (im not saying its the fall of the berlin wall here…), you should rethink what is.

  20. ironman721 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:45 PM

You never want to see an injury but it is hockey. 💩 Happens! Hope he’s ok!

    • steelers88 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:55 PM

He took a puck to his face! I don’t think he would be okay right now! His probally in a great amount of pain!

      • ironman721 - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:36 PM

I’ll rephrase, I hope he’s ok for the playoffs.

  21. steelers88 - Mar 30, 2013 at 7:53 PM

I wonder if the Penguins find out Crosby is done for the year before the trade deadline if they would trade Iginla, Morrow, and Murray? They arent going to resign with the Penguins anyway so if Crosby is out the Pens definatly won’t be winning the cup and all 3 of them want to win a cup and would only be right to let them realize their dreams.

    • pitpenguinsrulez - Mar 31, 2013 at 12:00 AM

Mark Madden would tear you a new A** if he saw you write this

  22. wisdomnfl - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:07 PM

Okay eiggles you got me on the upper or lower tooth one.

  23. bobhpine - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:17 PM

No Crosby, no Letang, no Martin, no fleury…it’s cool baby…15 straight.

Oh yeah, and remember how the penguins are soft defensively? 8 straight periods without a goal. 9 opposition goals in ten games. Seventh in the league in goals against. First in goals for.

Those are just stats. Hate away.

  24. gamechanger87 - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:20 PM

Gotta luv all the weak comments from the jealous haters/losers. The Franchise is CUPSTRONG

  25. steelers88 - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:27 PM

Wait I have one question? How can Crosby get a puck to the face and need oral surgery while Oviechkein get’s a puck in the face and he just needs stiches!

    • ironman721 - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:35 PM

In Russia pucks to the face is a junior hockey drill. Those guys are tough!

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:40 PM

I think Ovi’s mom could take a puck to the face and not even flinch

  26. wisdomnfl - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:35 PM

Sounds like you got a puck to the face Steelers88.

    • theageofquarrel - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:44 PM

      Possibly several

  27. garryjercia - Mar 30, 2013 at 8:41 PM

Can we at least agree that Crosby cannot be the best player in the league/on earth. If he was so awesome, he wouldn’t be a liability on the PK.

  28. modellforprez - Mar 30, 2013 at 10:04 PM

alotta guys probably wanted to knock sids chicklets down his rhtaot. but i bet the last guy that wanted to do it was Broosksie….

  29. Stiller43 - Mar 30, 2013 at 10:44 PM

Name a single player in the league you would trade crosby for straight up.

……whats that? Nobody? Damn straight. If you dont believe he’s the best player in the world, please provide us an answer as to who is.

    • holeecowman - Mar 30, 2013 at 11:31 PM

im sure there is at least 3 out there that somebody will draft in the next few yrs. this pos is not god get that out of your heads. and even if there was they wouldnt get the recognition they deserve because of this clown

  30. holeecowman - Mar 30, 2013 at 11:27 PM

oh no….. geez i hope he isnt concussed (sarc). there have been plenty of nhlers that have taken pucks to the face and have returned to finish the gam. but this littl pansy has to have it fixed right away and get the implants asap. wtf. how is this the face of the nhl. a few yrs ago if i recal correctly a d-man from philly got maybe 80 stitches in his face give or take and came back (not pronger) and wayne simonds in the playoffs i think took one to the face got stitched up and returned. just goes to show you that cindy cares more about his personal appearance than the team i will say he is a good player but as for the best noway the league is busy getting the oral treatment from him they dont and will not recognise the young players being drafted today. because if sid loses attention the precious penguins lose fans and file for another bankruptcy. just wait and see in the next 2-3 yrs there will be somebody better than him but wont be acknowledged due to this sissy lala. the nhl fears with sid gone they lose ratings which is complete b/s. the league did fine without him before. sid should be the new poster child for huggies or similac. and should also take up diving classes because we all know hes good at that on ice, lets see how he performs in the water. screw this guy im going home. lol

  31. bobhpine - Mar 31, 2013 at 1:02 AM

Kewl spellin holeecowman…u must be reel smrt.

Seriously man…that’s just embarrassing. Is spelling that difficult for you?
