The Detroit Red Wings picked up veteran right-shooting defenseman Marek Zidlicky at the trade deadline, and it took all of two days for him to make a positive contribution for his new team.

Playing for the first time in a Detroit uniform, Zidlicky scored a power play goal at 1:09 of overtime to give the Red Wings a 2-1 victory over the visiting and rival New York Rangers on Wednesday.

It was an odd goal that occurred during a scramble in front of Cam Talbot, who had the puck roll off his back and into the net during a four-on-three advantage for Detroit.

In addition to the winner, Zidlicky’s debut in Detroit came with 17:44 of ice time, a first-period holding call and two shots on net. The Red Wings have now won three games in a row -- all by one goal -- to move them within four points of the Montreal Canadiens for top spot in the Atlantic Division.

The Habs were also in action Wednesday, playing the Anaheim Ducks.

For the Rangers, they’re unable to move past the New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division. But there is good news in terms of their goaltending situation.

Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reported on NBCSN that Henrik Lundqvist, out with a vascular injury, has started skating on his own and could return in 10 to 14 days.
