The Detroit Red Wings -- at long last -- have acquired a veteran right-shooting defenseman.
Marek Zidlicky has been traded to Detroit from New Jersey, in return for a third-round pick (2016).
Zidlicky, 38, has four goals and 19 assists in 63 games this season. Of those 23 points, 12 have come on the power play. A pending UFA, he’s averaged 21:56 of ice time.
The Wings will be Zidlicky’s fourth NHL team. He was traded from Minnesota to New Jersey in 2011-12, and went on to help the Devils to a spot in the Stanley Cup Final.
Zidlicky is the fifth-oldest defenseman in the NHL.
Final deal for Zidlicky: 3rd rounder in 2016. If Wings go to EC final, add a 5th in 2015. If go to SC final, 5th back to Det, becomes a 2nd.
