Vanek meeting with Wild today

The seemingly endless dalliance between Thomas Vanek and the Minnesota Wild continues today.

Louis Jean of TVA Sports reports Vanek met face-to-face with the Wild today in Minnesota. That kind of meeting was easily arranged because Minnesota is where he calls home when hockey’s not in season.

Ever since the start of the final season of Vanek’s contract talk has centered around how the Wild would be the front-runners to land him in the offseason. After playing for three different teams and his season ending with a thud in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with Montreal, the two sides are talking it up.

Vanek, 30, won’t be returning to the Canadiens after his disappointing postseason. It was said two weeks ago that it “wasn’t a sure thing” he would sign with Minnesota, but after all the talk recently, at the very least the Wild are making it clear they’d like to bring him in.

Next headlines I’d like to see: Ehrhoff considers Minnesota; Boyle wild for the Wild; Stastny dreams of St. Paul; Niskanen askin Minn to get in; Biz Nasty: The New Grocery Stick on the Mississippi?

This would probably NOT be the best time to fly potential UFA’s in for a meeting unfortunately, unless there’s a nice riverboat handy.

Seriously, ya’ll appear to be showing a lot of fortitude and community spirit in the face of huge flooding/weather challenges. Our hearts and prayers go out to you if you current live in Minn.

Especially those in southern Minnesota. Here in Minneapolis, we have a creek that’s more of a river now, and lakes that are some 10% bigger and are starting to stink, but that I90 stretch has just been HAMMERED. Lost something like 40% of their soybean crop.

Miller to Wild? The Minnesota Sabres.

Should rename this team the Minnesota Mercenaries. Or the Minnesota Blank Cheque.

      • greatmiamisportsmind - Jun 29, 2014 at 5:39 PM

Minnesota blank cheques, yet as I look on cap geek, Minnesota currently has the 8th most cap space of all the NHL teams.

Just another misinformed NHL, probably another one who thinks Florida should move

      • elrock7 - Jun 29, 2014 at 7:23 PM

There should be no teams in Florida! They cant even give their tickets away in bars and restaurants!

Actually Tampa Bay sells out most of their games…

Remember when Richards and crew starting calling LA Philadelphia west? Minnesota could get that buffalo mid west vibe if they add Long time sabre Vanek to go with Pomenville. Plus Ott is UFA too I believe.

Oh please. like other teams just dont hand out money either in the NHL
Give me a break, or maybe you are jealous that now Minnesota may be the spot to come to play hockey for the cup as once upon a time, no one really wanted to come here to play
They now see the talent we have. the upcoming talent and the fans that go to the games
and know that hockey will always be supported here not like FLA that has to ask for 80 mil this year just to keep the rink open to pay the players etc
    same with Arizona

    • greatmiamisportsmind - Jun 29, 2014 at 8:20 PM

Yeah, except the Panthers didn’t ask for $80 million to meet payroll or whatever else. The $80 is left on their loan for BB&T Center and is asking to renegotiate the loan since the team has put every penny into the building for any repairs and remodeling. In a building the county owns, not the Panthers.

I get the NHL Center Ice so get to see about 45 games a week, and I watched Vanek with Pomanville and they had darn good chemistry together… who were you watching???
Maybe that would be a great combo once again in Minnesota

Anybody who seems to play with Pommer seems to have their game elevated… The guy has exceedingly good vision and just knows how to position when he doesn’t have the puck…

Vanek no more than 3 years… Only if Iginla is a no.

Iginla for two years is still cheaper and a better two way skater. Iggy tho in decline will still net 25-35 goals. Not much more needed to say.
