Thomas Vanek‘s departure from the New York Islanders game Saturday night with an upper-body injury will have repercussions on their lineup tonight.

Arthur Staple of Newsday reports Vanek is out of the Isles game tonight in Montreal against the Canadiens. Brock Nelson will jump into the lineup in his place.

In his six games with the Islanders since being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres, Vanek has one goal and two assists. The team is 2-4-0 since trading Matt Moulson for Vanek back on October 27. Meanwhile, Moulson has two goals and four assists in six games with the Sabres since the deal, although his last game against the Ducks didn’t exactly go very well.

Here’s the perfect opportunity for Brock to show that he’s worth staying on the big league roster. I thought his game was great in Bridgeport he had a solid shot. I hope this game he can break out.. As for Vanek maybe he’s nervous because he’s playing for a big market territory. Don’t worry fans he comes back he’ll be better than ever and we re-sign him to a multi-year contract.

LOL are you actually saying the islanders fan base is a bigger market than Buffalo.

The Sabres have no competition. Isles have two other franchises in their market. And anyway there was absolutely no chance Vanek was going to resign w/ the Sabres.

@bcisleman What is the difference if there is competition or not in Buffalo? He said isles have a bigger market which they do not. Plus I don’t remember Vanek resigning with the Sabres being apart of my comment whatsoever
