Emelin has knee surgery, faces six months of recovery

Montreal defenseman Alexei Emelin has undergone reconstructive surgery on his left knee (ACL and MCL), the Canadiens announced today.

Emelin’s recovery period is estimated to be six months, meaning he’ll miss the start of the 2013-14 NHL season.

The 27-year-old was injured on Apr. 6 while trying to throw a hit on Boston’s Milan Lucic:
