Sabres’ Miller: Patrick Kaleta needs to ‘grow up’

Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller was asked about his teammate, Patrick Kaleta, being upset over getting scratched for Sunday’s game against the Washington Capitals, despite serving his recent five-game suspension.

And Miller didn’t hold back.

“He’s being dramatic,” Miller, in an audio file at, said about Kaleta.

“We’re not discussing what (Kaleta) says to you guys because that’s just drama and he needs to just grow up.”

Oh boy. Miller’s comments followed a 5-3 loss to the Capitals. And the soap opera in Buffalo continues.

The Sabres are now 14th in the Eastern Conference, and just four points ahead of the bottom-dwelling Florida Panthers.

The often-outspoken Miller – there are reports his days in Buffalo “are numbered” – allowed five goals on just 25 shots.

Kaleta, who was suspended five games for hitting New York Rangers forward Brad Richards from behind, wasn’t happy about being a healthy scratch.

“I’m pissed off. I want to play,” Kaleta told the Buffalo News prior to Sunday’s game.

“And especially after watching some things, sitting there watching the game, I want to play. … I guess they don’t need me right now I guess. I’ve been pissed off watching for the past couple weeks. No matter if you’re a fan, a player, you guys know what’s going on. You should be pissed off. You should play with a little piss and vinegar. You shouldn’t be happy. We’re not in position we want to be in. We have to work harder, come in and do something about it.”

Ryan Miller proves yet again that nobody hates the Buffalo Sabres as much as Ryan Miller does.

    • nunan - Mar 17, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Maybe Miller gets dealt? Wouldn’t that be something..rebuild

  2. isithockeyseasonyet - Mar 17, 2013 at 11:07 PM

Seems that way, also it’s hard not to hate kaleta, even for his own teammates

    • gager19 - Mar 18, 2013 at 1:51 PM

i have no problem liking kaleta especialy with this prideless group[.kaleta is a good teamate ;keeps the other team honest,is a good penalty killer.and most importantly plays with heart.the sabres could use a lot more like him.

  3. ihatethejets23 - Mar 17, 2013 at 11:11 PM

The team is rudderless. A weak (physically and mentally) captain, a clueless and delusional GM, and an owner who is essentially hiding. Until Regier is fired, the Sabres will continue to move backwards. Embarrassing.

Did anybody else catch what Miller said? He said to the media, they werent going to talk to the media about what kaleta said… then goes on to say its drama he needs to grow up…and he made a stupid play needs to get over it….so i guess you are talking to the media about what kaleta said eh ryan? Ryan Miller, who ya crappin?

  6. 950003cups - Mar 17, 2013 at 11:40 PM

If Miller wants to come to NJ, in a year we’ll have space.

  7. modellforprez - Mar 17, 2013 at 11:47 PM

tell em” kaleta. You have to play with Piss & Vinegar

  8. 19to77 - Mar 17, 2013 at 11:53 PM

Bet Miller would get along well with Troy Brouwer. One throwing the other under the bus every game.

  9. alswingman - Mar 18, 2013 at 12:29 AM

What is funny is Kaleta does nothing to help when he is on the ice. He’s just an agitator. If anyone thinks that is what the team needs then the Sabres will never improve. Find guys who can play the game.

    Go caps

  12. misterchainbluelightning - Mar 18, 2013 at 3:00 AM

Makes ya appreciate guys like Cam Neely, Bobby Probert, Wendell Clark brought to the table, and how much the Bruins love Lucic.

Unfortunately friends we’ll never know the answer to that, despite these new rumors that Fehr’s personal accounts have recently been “buttressed” with money transfers from Beijing. Nonetheless, the bottom line remains that Ryan Miller is “good people” and therefore he has every right to speak out against “under-performing” parasites on his team. For right or for wrong, Miller equals “passion” and I’ll take that over boring and “compromised” robotics any day of the week, from here until Sunday.

Kaleta may be an agitator and may make some bonehead plays but.. The guy is a very good penalty killer and he plays with high energy. At least he cares… from watching Ryan Miller the last few weeks he’s just going through the motions. Teams seem to have realized that he drops to quickly and allows high wrist shots in frequently. The guy has been outplayed by midrange goalies all season!

  15. buddysguys - Mar 18, 2013 at 9:01 AM

as a sabres fan they blow, who cares?

  16. buffalomafia - Mar 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM

As a Sabres fan Kaleta doesn’t belong in theh NHL anyway! Big deal he is an agitator?! He doesn’t score!!! When he shoots the puck old man breath is stronger than his shot!

For Ryan Miller I can see him in either a Flyers or Blackhawks jersey? Look who he has in front of him on D? Tinker Bell Myers!

  17. kgun80 - Mar 18, 2013 at 12:23 PM

    @ Buffalomafia
I am a Sabres fan and a Bills fan please realize not every player is a goal scorer!! Your a joke your tag is a joke..get some knowledge and I hope people from other cities realize this guy does not represent Buffalo.

  18. buffalomafia - Mar 18, 2013 at 12:36 PM

@kgun80 Hey chump it’s reality! Your tag is a joke too!

  19. buffalomafia - Mar 18, 2013 at 12:41 PM

@kgun80- my uncle used to be equipment manager of the Buffalo Bills & has two AFL Championship rings! Don’t tell me I don’t represent the city!

    • DonkeyStick - Mar 18, 2013 at 2:54 PM

I’ll bet his big brother can beat up your big brother too….

      • bigblackzaranek - Mar 19, 2013 at 12:43 PM

Oh man, looks like the flys are down and the rulers are out for yet another internet **** measuring contest…

  20. mrbuffalosabre - Mar 18, 2013 at 3:06 PM

I think Ryan ought to just shut up. The Sabres have enough problems without him creating any more. He’s let in a few soft goals and i don’t hear his team mates calling him out.The whole team is playing like crap.

  21. kgun80 - Mar 18, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Haha your a joke.. Your uncle was the equipment manager… Hahaha. Your just terrible you don’t rep anyone. Realize you are bashing a player who does other things besides score. So was Kent Hull a bad football player because he never scored tds? You can’t have a team of Vaneks!! Not everyone is a scorer that’s the point you need guys to do other jobs. Just because your uncle washed jock straps doesn’t make you a sports expert. And you don’t rep Buffalo. You are the reason people think we have bad fans. And Kgun refers to the offense our HOF QB ran so once again you show your ignorance.

  22. buffalomafia - Mar 18, 2013 at 5:51 PM

@kgun80- you moron you are a homer that is unemployed, eats cheetos, & jerks off!

Kaleta should be in a scoring roll as a player not a guy that does the dirty work like Tinker Bell Myers & a couple ither Sabres should be doing! That poor kid(Kaleta) has concussion problems for being a tough guy when the bigger guys should be doing it! You big dork!!!

  23. kgun80 - Mar 18, 2013 at 6:22 PM

Nice comeback once again proving your ignorance. How do you make a role player play a goal scorers role? So should Vanek play D he’s a decent sized guy? I actually don’t eat Cheetos and have a decent job. Your sports knowledge is below par please learn to understand the game before you comment. And dork? You should get out of your moms basement and realize that people haven’t called eachother dorks since the 90s you know when your zubaz pants were still cool

  24. buffalomafia - Mar 18, 2013 at 6:54 PM

@kgun80- you probably have a fat chowhound wife!

You are only Sabres fan that thinks Sabres are doing good?! I make more in three months than u make in a year!

You are a die hard fan! So am I but you have to separate reality from passion you skidmark!!

  25. buffalomafia - Mar 18, 2013 at 6:55 PM

    Please someone help me?!!!!

  26. kgun80 - Mar 18, 2013 at 7:43 PM

Never said anything about the team playing well? I commented about a player in the roster who should be in the lineup he’s not the best.. but the guy fills his ROLE. That’s the only thing I’m trying to get through here. Not everyone is a goal scorer he contributes in other ways. I’m def not a homer. I can admit when the teams are doing bad. I’m not delusional. You are right I am a diehard fan.. I’ll root for the Bills and Sabres no matter what.

You just keep proving me right with childish comments and insults…. Thanks for the laughs. And please don’t let people think you are a representation of what people in the Buffalo area are like.

    • bigblackzaranek - Mar 19, 2013 at 12:47 PM

      He can represent North Buffalo…
