Eakins is sure Cherry “believes in everything he had somebody type for him”

Dallas Eakins

Toronto Marlies coach Dallas Eakins shot back at Don Cherry today after the bombastic commentator took to Twitter yesterday and ripped the Maple Leafs organization for the way it’s treated prospect Nazem Kadri.

“[Cherry’s] comments yesterday I can shake my head at them,” said Eakins, as per TSN’s Jonas Siegel. “I know what the truth is, I know what I believe in. And listen, he’s a strong-willed guy; I’m sure he believes in everything that he had somebody type for him.”

Eakins added that he’s never seen Cherry at a Marlies game or practice, and that Cherry has never knocked on Eakins’ door to say hello.

“I invite Don to come on down,” he said.

Cherry took issue with the Leafs organization, which includes the AHL Marlies, after Eakins told reporters Friday that Kadri’s body fat percentage was “unacceptable.”

“I have never in my life seen a kid treated like Nazem Kadri by the Leafs,” Cherry tweeted (or, if you believe Eakins, had someone tweet for him.)

“If anyone wants to get a blue print on how to destroy someone, just follow the Toronto Maple Leafs.”

Here’s Eakins:

Having the NHLPA start their own league is a wonderful idea. What an opportunity to give them a dose of reality. Let them hire their own GM and asst GMs, coaches and assistants, trainers and medical staff, arena security and janitorial crews, ticket sellers and team marketing staff, charter aircraft (incl. paying the 170% increase in the cost of jet fuel since the last CBA was signed) and the dozens of other costs that aren’t top of mind. Don’t forget the negotiating team required to deal with local municipalities and land owners to see who gets the parking revenues and taxes and myriad other things; or the player development costs with minor league teams so they have players to call up in case of injuries. Then they can have fun with Jethro Bodine ciphering how to divide up the 57% of revenues that are magically left over after paying these costs.

What does this have to do with this post whatsoever? There are like 40 posts on here about the CBA and you take up valuable space that should be used to vilify the obviously rotund Kadri.

Cherry is right. This team continues to beat this kid up. He is clearly talented, something the Leafs lack. Just let him play and see what happens. Some things should be kept between players and coaches.
