Weber, Preds to talk next week

Jul 11, 2012, 5:04 PM EDT

NASHVILLE, TN - APRIL 13: Shea Weber #6 of the Nashville Predators celebrates his goal against the Detroit Red Wings in Game Two of the Western Conference Quarterfinals during the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at the Bridgestone Arena on April 13, 2012 in Nashville, Tennessee. Next week could be a big one for Shea Weber and the Nashville Predators as the two sides are expected to talk contract.

Specifically, they’ll be talking long-term contract.

Preds GM David Poile provided The Tennessean with an update on the situation.

“I talked to (his agent) Jarrett (Bousquet) yesterday and had a good conversation,” Poile said. “Shea and all his friends and people will be together this weekend for his charity golf tournament in his name in Sicamous (British Columbia). They’re going to be doing that and then we’re going to talk next week.”

If Weber is unwilling to commit for multiple years in Nashville, Poile could be forced to trade the team’s captain rather than risk losing him as an unrestricted free agent next summer, a la Ryan Suter.

…I’ve got my eye on you, Canucks.

    trade him to Minnesota!

    • lordfletcher - Jul 11, 2012 at 9:28 PM

      Hell no!

Fletcher wouldn’t be dumb enough to trade for him if he is set to become a UFA. Poile will not trade him during the season and again, we are right back to where we started…

Besides, you do know how much $$$ / trade assets, it would cost to get Weber, NO THANKS.

A guess at the price it would cost to get Weber ….

      Wild: Weber

Preds: Dumba / Scandella / Johan Larsson / next years first & second round picks / Clutterbuck

No way, do not want! If you think Nash costs a lot, just wait to see this deal for Weber (if it happens)

    Shea,

Hang in there for next summer. My team spends money, and we have 15 million available next summer.

    Signed,

    Ryan Suter

      Hey Kid,

Please hop off of my back. It can’t take too much more after I took a joy ride with Jager Bomb Heatley.

      Signed,

      my chiropractor

He will probably be going to Vancouver.

Weber will not be committing to a long term contract with the Preds next week so don’t get your hopes up. It’s all about the money and there’s more of outside Nashville.

Isn’t it amazing how all these obnoxious Wild fans crawled out from under of a rock at the same time to post false bravado. Last time I checked you haven’t won squat and the season hasn’t started.

    • lordfletcher - Jul 12, 2012 at 12:49 AM

we have always been here, you just started to notice, just like everyone else around the league.

weird how that happens isn’t it.

yes, some Wild fans are saying more than they should but whatever, it’s the internet… get over it. Pfff! Who cares, move on with your life

      • greatminnesotasportsmind - Jul 12, 2012 at 1:58 AM

Wild may not have won squat on the ice, but they are clear cut winners in free agency this summer, and you can’t dispute that

      mojo,

Between whiners complaining about losing Parise and Suter and the moron(s) from the Soupcan Army Of Girth, this place needs as many people willing to actually talk about hockey as it can get. Without Wild fans, many comment threads from the last week or two would have contained nothing but bitter name calling from NJ/NASH fans and the endless barrage of insults that Pittsburgh and Philly fans toss at one another.

But when there are no mods or real quality control, it’s hard to expect more. I guess that’s why most fans choose to post elsewhere.

So talk hockey. Last time I checked nobody has ever won a Stanley Cup in July.

Thank you for setting the bar high with your hockey knowledge

Weber might like to play somewhere there’s a better chance of winning the cup, for more money, with a team that has just a “little” more offense, and doesn’t have to bear the night in and night pressure of trying to be at the top of his game. I.e. some better defensemen to play with to take some of the pressure of him.

Toronto? He’s friends with Franson, but not as close as he was with Suter.

Smart money is on Vancouver though. Maybe Minnesota, but I doubt it.
