Marchand calls Buffalo the “worst place in the NHL”

Feb 23, 2012, 6:13 PM EDT

Marchand Still

Poor Buffalo – always getting picked on. The latest to pile on was Bruins forward Brad Marchand, who went on Boston radio today and called Buffalo the “worst place in the NHL.”

Nose Face added: “I’m not too excited to go there, but I’ll be excited to leave.”

Predictably, Marchand apologized upon the Bruins’ arrival in Buffalo for tomorrow’s game. You know the routine – he was just having fun, he hopes he didn’t offend anyone, etc.

In case you’re getting a sense of déjà vu, a similar story unfolded in December when Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul tweeted a photo of the view from his Buffalo hotel and asked if there were any “windowless rooms.”

While it might all be in fun, I think everyone should be careful. One day Buffalo is going to snap and take revenge on all the cities that teased it. It’ll be like the end of Carrie, except Buffalo can’t set stuff on fire with its mind.

Buffalo crosses fingers that “Coyotes to East St. Louis” rumours start heating up…

  2. gbiscottagecheesefatties - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:21 PM

HAHAHA… this guy is such a piece of work, on and off the ice

  3. shukey11 - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:25 PM

He’s just calling how everyone who’s ever been to buffalo sees it

  4. scottybcboy - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:26 PM

Nose Face Killah is awesome. For all the haters, don’t tell me you wouldn’t love him on your team. Sick talent, agitates, tells it like it is…what a beauty! Kind of like a non-biting, non-hair pulling Alex Burrows.

    • elvispocomo - Feb 26, 2012 at 12:51 PM

Not like Burrows at all, he’s just a knee clipping, elbowing, slewfooting Marshmont.

  5. pens919209 - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:27 PM

I’m beginning to think that Brad Marchand is a real-life version of Trollface.

  6. govtminion - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:27 PM

Brad? Hi, Govtminion here. Bruins fan to the core, glad to have you on the team. That Cup run last year? Man, you were awesome in that, keep up the good work there.

Ah… hey, can you do me a favor? Keep doing what you do, but… ah, can you please stop talking? Because it seems like whenever you do, it’s to tell people how wasted you get, or how much you disrespect another city, that sort of thing. And, well, it makes you look like a jackass.

Leave the incoherent ramblings to the media to Tim Thomas and keep playing hockey. Thanks Brad, good talk. Hey, say hi to Rask for me, will you? He seems like such a nice kid.

P.S.- Really dude, shut the ol’ pie-hole.

    • drewsylvania - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:07 PM

In this case it’s pretty funny, because he’s only saying what everyone else (sans Lupul) is thinking.

      • jkibler1 - Feb 24, 2012 at 2:56 PM

do you think this jackwater even knows his boss lives in Buffalo? well apparently he cant play hockey, so he tries to make a statement with his mouth and not his stick. As a Sabre fan who has watched a game in Boston…i was wondering why everything in that arena smells like fish?? too close to the ocean?? could it be the women???

    • velocirapist - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:16 PM

Nice to know not all Bs fans are dbags. Thanks.

  7. trbowman - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:37 PM

“While it might all be in fun, I think everyone should be careful. One day Buffalo is going to snap and take revenge on all the cities that teased it. It’ll be like the end of Carrie, except Buffalo can’t set stuff on fire with its mind.”

    • drewsylvania - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:11 PM

They don’t need to use their minds–they can send for Vancouver’s “fans”.

      • t16rich - Feb 23, 2012 at 8:05 PM

Or the U-MASS campus. Massachusetts aint no angels when it comes to rioting either.

      • elvispocomo - Feb 26, 2012 at 12:57 PM

Or perhaps they’ll just give riot guns to untrained Boston police members, so they can use them to kill all the people that have wronged them.

      • drewsylvania - Feb 26, 2012 at 2:04 PM

If by “all” you mean “one”, then yes, you’re right.

How on earth can you guys compare a small handful of isolated incidents to a full-blown riot with SWAT and tear gas???

  8. solador78 - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:42 PM

If reporters can’t see the difference between the personal views that he shares on radio and his job as a hockey player, well that’s not Marchant’s problem.

    • ikillchicken - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:58 PM

Lol. There’s nothing more hilarious than watching Bruins fans desperately try to justify their players’ tendency to run at the mouth by twisting it into some inane “It’s the media’s fault for reporting it” BS.

      • drewsylvania - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:08 PM

If you think Bruins fans are “desperate”, you haven’t been watching the past two seasons.

      • solador78 - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:16 PM

Don’t even get me started on all the legal hits Bruins’ players have sometimes been suspended for!

If it weren’t for Jeremy Jacobs chairing the Board of Governors, Chara would have been suspended for the rest of the season and we never would have “won” the cup last year!

  9. wez99 - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:46 PM

    marchand, mr. classy himself

  10. t16rich - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:52 PM

“There’s the Peace Bridge that gets you to Canada, so that’s good. That’s a good thing about coming to Buffalo is that you get you can get to Canada quickly. So you can leave.” Gerry Dee.

  11. travishenryskid - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:54 PM

God I hope the Sabres acquire him one day so he is forced to live there…

  12. ikillchicken - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:55 PM

Oh come on! Buffalo is absolutely NOT the worst NHL city. What about New Jersey? Or Detroit? Or…well okay. Still, it’s not literally the worst.

    • drewsylvania - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:10 PM

Buffalo has the highest suicide rate in the country.

      • donfocker89 - Feb 23, 2012 at 9:36 PM

Easy with that. There has been a couple suicides from younger kids lately because they get bullied on a regular basis. Probably from people like you. Its not because Buffalo isnt The freakin city of lights.

      • bethgoesglobal - Feb 23, 2012 at 11:00 PM

I thought Portland, Oregon did. Either way. At least Buffalo has great fans.

      • ikillchicken - Feb 24, 2012 at 2:32 AM

Lol. So apparently now we’re making fun of people who commit suicide.

        Stay classy Boston.

      • drewsylvania - Feb 24, 2012 at 3:38 PM

I’m making fun of people by quoting a suicide rate?

Go take a class on logic.

    • barkar942 - Feb 23, 2012 at 9:23 PM

      New Jersey is a city?
That explains why all those Joizy Showar people are over here!
They think they are visiting the city of New Jersey!

    • selldannysell - Feb 27, 2012 at 12:21 PM

I thought New Jersey was a state?

  13. habsman - Feb 23, 2012 at 6:56 PM

If there was ever a match made in heaven it’s Boston and Marchand. I’ve got a bottle of 18 year old scotch I’m going to crack when this asshat gets his.

    • drewsylvania - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:10 PM

      YOU’LL GET YOURS!!!!

      • ikillchicken - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:15 PM

I think someones getting cranky and needs to go down for his nap.

      • drewsylvania - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:17 PM

It’s a reference to how children talk back to other children, e.g. “my dad can beat up your dad.”

      • habsman - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:27 PM

@ drewsylvania (aka redrews, drewsducks, etc…..)

It’s interesting that you feel the need to explain your post. Especially considering you have a “Masters” degree and all. Shouldn’t you be studying?

    • drewsylvania - Feb 24, 2012 at 3:41 PM

There are about four reasons why your post is an illogical fail:

      1) I explained it b/c someone questioned it.
      2) Since I have my degree, “studying” is over.
      3) I’m not either of those other two posters.
      4) I’m a Bruins fan, not a Ducks fan.
      5) Everyone here knows what kind of person you are, and it ain’t good.

      • drewsylvania - Feb 24, 2012 at 3:41 PM

(above is a response to habsman)

  14. 8man - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:12 PM

You’d think Buffalo would import some Canadian strippers to, you know, liven the place up a bit.

I think we’re past throw pillows and flowers….

  15. arbruins - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:46 PM

Boy the Canadiens really suck this year…aye?

    • habsman - Feb 23, 2012 at 8:09 PM

Yes, the Habs suck this year. And it’s not aye, it’s eh.

      • scottybcboy - Feb 23, 2012 at 8:39 PM

It’s not just this year. The Habs just plain suck, eh.

      • solador78 - Feb 23, 2012 at 9:03 PM

Typical bandwagon Bruins fan circa 2008:

“I mention this only because, for the past two weeks, I have been watching hockey. It started innocently enough — the Bruins were pitted against the Canadiens in Round 1 of the playoffs, and even though I couldn’t have named five Bruins, I found myself flicking over to Versus for Game 1 just because I enjoyed seeing the uniforms so much. The Bruins were wearing their white, black and gold, the Habs were wearing their red and blue, and they were playing in Whatever-The-Hell-The-Forum-Is-Called-Now. Just like old times … right down to the part when the Bruins lost. Game 2 happened on a Saturday and I caught the third period and overtime; we blew that one, too. But it wasn’t until Game 3 that I found myself getting hooked — not for the excitement of the games as much as the ignominy of Montreal fans infiltrating Whatever-The-Hell-The-Garden-Is-Called-Now and cheering on the visiting Habs. Even worse, they had no problem throwing down with Boston fans in the stands. I mean, this was like something that would happen to the Atlanta Hawks or the Tampa Bay Rays.

No matter what has happened to hockey in Boston over the years, this was an unforgivable turn of events — nearly as violating as hundreds of British people randomly showing up in Charlestown dressed in 1770s garb, heading over to the Warren Tavern and starting to push locals around. I don’t care what’s happened to me and the Bruins over the years; the fact that (A) Montreal fans felt safe enough to come to a playoff game in Boston and (B) they could get THAT many tickets to a playoff game had to rank among the saddest moments in recent Boston sports history.”

  16. babar61 - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:47 PM

Well he isn’t the first athlete to take a shot at Buffalo, and I’m sure he won’t be the last.

  17. buffalomafia - Feb 23, 2012 at 7:54 PM

Someone should drop off Marchand in the hood on the east side of Buffalo & see if he escapes?!

@drewsylvania- Seattle has highest suicide rate! In Buffalo we just drink alot! Bartender give us a round!

  18. kitshky - Feb 23, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Oh look more immature crap coming out of Marchands mouth … yaaawn.

  19. pftbillsfan - Feb 23, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Id much rather live in Boston, you know the place with great manners and a wonderful grasp on the english language…..wicked

  20. donfocker89 - Feb 23, 2012 at 9:44 PM

*Sigh* Another shot at the city of Buffalo. The sad thing is that he’s going to get booed tomorrow night and thats exactly what he wants. Sorry we cant pamper the little hockey players with those pay checks they reel in. I enjoy it here and know how to make the best of things. I dont know Brad’s roots but Im sure he and everyone else could understand that. And dont forget what the last Boston rep said about Buffalo. You forgot to mention a week before the superbowl that Tom Brady called Buffalos hotels some of the worst hes ever seen. Karma bites and Tommy lost. Be careful Brad.

    • habsman - Feb 23, 2012 at 10:17 PM

It doesn’t matter where this guy is from (Halifax), the point is he’s a piece of crap scum bag who has tried on several occasions to injure players. Bruin fans confuse these cheap shots with toughness, and will spin these incidents to cover for their cheap shot, sucker punching team.

      • solador78 - Feb 23, 2012 at 10:51 PM

Halifax is the most beautiful trailer park in all of Canada.

Say hi to Bubbles for me!

      • habsman - Feb 23, 2012 at 11:15 PM

        Don’t forget Ricky and Julien.

      • drewsylvania - Feb 24, 2012 at 3:44 PM

When are you going to start enforcing your commenter policy, NBC? Do you think everyone wants to hear the same post from habsman five times per thread?

  21. cowboyscanada - Feb 23, 2012 at 10:35 PM

    Well, it is a dump,,,,

  22. necromerlin - Feb 23, 2012 at 10:57 PM

Wow what a moron. You realize the guy that signs your paychecks is from and still has his summer home in Buffalo?

  23. dan46778 - Feb 23, 2012 at 11:09 PM

I thought buffalo was a Canadian city lol

  25. Steven Coppola - Feb 24, 2012 at 12:07 AM

I really hope the team’s ownership gets a little pissed. Their owner lives in Buffalo. Good thing he’s a decent hockey player because he just insulted the man who pays him as well as an entire city. Never met someone who wasn’t proud to be from Buffalo. Where is he from? Oh yeah, no one cares.

  26. bretthullisacheater - Feb 24, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Sorry but where is the owner of the bruins from ? Oh Buffalo thats how dumb this person is will not call him a man but how do you think his food is taste n while he is here

  27. cmv08 - Feb 24, 2012 at 12:05 PM

The REAL reason he doesn’t want to come back? How about 6-0? Your here to play hockey, not tour the City. Maybe if you were, you wouldn’t get your arse handed to you!

  28. cmv08 - Feb 25, 2012 at 11:24 AM

Well NBC, nothing to say about Boston losing in Buffalo again? WHAT A SHOCK! Lupul learned the hard way, now Marchand. Did Boston host the World Juniors or the first Winter Classic? How many all-stars are from Boston? Buffalo, ugly as it may be, is a GREAT Hockey City. It may take 3, 5, even 10 years but when Buffalo wins the cup, Bettman and Ebersol will both get a nice swig of Pee Pee Tea courtesy of the Sabres Captain and fans.
