Ovechkin caps

Alex Ovechkin won’t play tonight in Ottawa. The Capitals’ top goal-scorer is out with a lower-body injury, reports the Washington Times.

Ovechkin left this morning’s practice after just eight minutes, shaking his head in frustration as he departed. When asked by reporters what was wrong, he said he “don’t feel pretty good.”

AHL call-up Keith Aucoin is expected to draw into the lineup against the Senators.

Hmmm… hopefully it’s nothing serious. It’s hardly an excuse for their sorry play this year, but this team has been just hammered by injuries.

Hammered by injuries? Go take a look at where the penguins are having 270+ man games lost, and the majority of that being croz, staal, letang and some geno (not to mention the defense.) injuries are no excuse.

…which is why I said ‘hardly an excuse’. Their problems go well past injuries, but the injury bug hasn’t helped matters- for example, just as Backstrom started playing well he ended up out for the past month.

Well, at least they won’t have to worry about turnovers caused by Ovechkin trying to steal the puck from his own man.
