The ‘unbelievable’ Sedins are playing like their old selves again

Vancouver Canucks v New York Rangers

Maybe it’s because they’ve been reunited with their old linemate, Alex Burrows, the hard-working winger with whom they enjoyed so much success in the past.

Maybe it’s because they haven’t been run into the ground and are back to skating 19 minutes a night, not 21 like last season.

Or maybe they’ve been feeding off the youthful energy that rookies Bo Horvat and Ronalds Kenins have been providing.

Whatever it is, the Sedin twins are playing some of the best hockey they’ve played in a while, on a Vancouver Canucks team that’s won five of seven since an embarrassing home loss to San Jose on Feb. 5.

“It’s felt good all year,” Henrik Sedin told Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy after last night’s 5-4 shootout win at MSG.

“It doesn’t feel like we’re 34, so that’s a good sign.”

Henrik scored twice against the Rangers, bringing his points total up to 50. That’s the same total he finished with last season.

Henrik’s brother, Daniel, had two assists to give him 49 points, surpassing the 47 he put up in the nightmare campaign of 2013-14.

“They were unbelievable,” Horvat said, per The Province. “A lot of people don’t realize how good these guys are.”

Or maybe they’d just forgotten.

The Canucks, minus three of their regular defensemen, have four games remaining on their five-game trip. They play the Devils tonight in Newark.
