With Detroit beating the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime, and the Los Angeles Kings coming back against Colorado, we now have our Western Conference matchups all set. #1 San Jose Sharks vs. #8 Colorado AvalancheThis is a great matchup for the Avalanche, who have Craig Anderson to fall back on against a Sharks team that has…

  2. Flyers 1, Rangers 1; Headed to overtime

I’ll say it right now. A game with this much on the line should never be decided by a shootout. But there’s a good chance that will happen, and two team’s fate will be decided by a skills competition. Sure, we’ll have the five minute overtime, but that’s not anywhere near enough. 1-1 heading into…

  3. Flyers 1, Rangers 1; Carle ties it up on PP

Now we have a hockey game. The Rangers mishandled the puck at center ice, and the Flyers executed a perfect transition from defense to offense as they crashed the net while on the power play. Lundqvist made two great saves but couldn’t control the rebound, and Matt Carle was able to backhand the rebound over…

  4. Flyers 0, Rangers 1; Now this is entertainment?

    Apr 11, 2010, 4:52 PM EDT

This hasn’t exactly been the most entertaining game between two teams fighting for their season, but at least the intensity has been ratcheted up a bit. If you a number of tripping, hooking and roughing penalties entertaining, so we get to see these powerful power plays in action. It’s actually going a bit like expected.…

  6. Bruins blank Ovechkin, beat Capitals 4-3 in SO

    Apr 11, 2010, 3:30 PM EDT

    Comments Off

The story of this game was supposed to be about Alex Ovechkin’s race for the Rocket Richard and Art Ross trophies. After all, the two teams had nothing to play for; win or lose the Capitals would remain the East’s top seed and the Bruins are still in the sixth spot. Yet, instead of being…

  7. Jody Shelley(!) gives Rangers 1-0 lead

    Apr 11, 2010, 3:17 PM EDT

As the Comcast Sportsnet announcers pointed out, Jody Shelley went 62 games without a goal but now has a goal in two consecutive games. Oh, and those goals are coming in absolutely the most important contests the Rangers have played in the 2009-10 season. He has three points in his last five games, accounting for…

  10. Marco Sturm ties game 3-3

Marco Sturm will probably end up being the Bruins’ leading goal scorer. He tied the game up 3-3 with a very nice one-timer past Semyon Varlamov. It looks like we’re going to have another photo finish in a year full of heart-stopping Game of the Week finishes. These teams sure are playing like they have…

  11. Knuble gives Caps 3-2 lead

After a period (not a span of time but an actual second period) of inactivity, the Washington Capitals took the lead thanks to a nice deflection by Mike Knuble. The team won the faceoff cleanly, Mike Green sent a shot from the point and Knuble deflected the puck past Tim Thomas. I think Thomas has…

  12. Two quick goals make it 2-2

First, Michael Ryder scored his second goal of the afternoon on the powerplay. It didn’t take long for the Capitals to tie it up, though. Eric Belanger (one of the team’s many solid but unheralded role players) swiftly put a goal past Tim Thomas. This could be yet another high scoring game.

  13. Michael Ryder ties it 1-1

Well, that didn’t take very long. Just like that, Milan Lucic made a nice pass from behind the net to set up a Michael Ryder goal. This makes it 1-1 early in the first period. Stay tuned for more scoring updates and hop into the Game of the Week chat, why don’t you?

  14. Semin gives Caps 1-0 lead, Thomas throws punches

Another Game of the Week, another early soft goal by a beleaguered goalie. This time it was Alex Semin scoring his 40th goal of the season on Tim Thomas. The real highlight was Thomas going into rage-out mode by fighting with Jason Chimera. There are few things that I (or most hockey fans) treasure quite…

(This photo is just too good not to post again. Click on it.  You won’t regret it. Did Evander Kane become an honorary Boston Bruin with this punch?) 16. Injury Report: Some healthy players might sit

    Apr 11, 2010, 10:55 AM EDT

Today might be a bit misleading from an “injuries” standpoint since there might be players who are held out of the game because both teams already clinched their position in the playoffs. The Capitals already guaranteed themselves the number one seed in the East while Montreal’s loss yesterday assured Boston’s place as the number six seed (although it…

  17. Goals of the Night: Daniel Sedin's hat trick

Brandon mentioned Daniel Sedin’s incredible goal last night, but it would be a sin to not actually physically have it on the site. At first, I thought that I’d just put Daniel’s incredible third goal up and call it a night. So here is that between-the-legs moment of genius.   It came to my attention…

    Apr 11, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT

Here’s a rundown of all the storylines for today, as prepare for what should be an incredible day of hockey.
