Simon Gagne, who left the Bruins midway through last season to be with his ailing father, is reportedly eyeing a NHL return this fall, according to Sportsnet.

Gagne, 35, caught on with the Bruins last October after playing with the team through training camp and the preseason, agreeing to a one-year pact worth $600,000. He went on to appear in 23 games, scoring three goals and four points, before leaving the team in December to spend time with his father, Pierre, who eventually succumbed to liver cancer.

Following his father’s passing, Gagne told the Bruins he wouldn’t be returning to the club.

Per Sportsnet, Gagne is working out with the hope of catching on with a team for training camp. It’ll be interesting to see if he gets a shot; in his brief time with the Bruins, the former 40-goal scorer transitioned into a bottom-six checking forward, averaging 11:18 TOI per game.
