Welcome back, Manitoba Moose

Moose

The Manitoba Moose have been reborn in Winnipeg.

The Jets made it official today, confirming that their AHL affiliate will move from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to the MTS Centre for the 2015-16 season.

The Moose, formerly the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, moved to Newfoundland after the Atlanta Thrashers relocated to Winnipeg from in 2011.

Once in St. John’s, the Moose were renamed the IceCaps and became the Jets’ affiliate. But despite strong attendance, it wasn’t a perfect match from a geographical perspective, given the distance between the most easterly city in North America and the one on the prairies.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the American Hockey League back to Winnipeg,” said True North chairman Mark Chipman in a statement. “Given the support that our fans have demonstrated for the American Hockey League and Manitoba Moose in the past, coupled with the interest our fans have in our Winnipeg Jets prospects, we have no doubt there will be a strong interest in our season ticket campaign. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to showcasing the future Winnipeg Jets in an AHL environment, right here in Winnipeg.”
