A day after apologizing to fans and his teammates for his poor showing in Pittsburgh’s first round series with the New York Rangers, Evgeni Malkin is pondering an offer to play for Russia at next month’s World Hockey Championship.
According to a report, Malkin and the Penguins will make the decision on whether the 28-year-old heads to the Czech Republic.
Malkin was held off the score sheet in the five-game series against the Rangers while registering a minus-1 rating.
It marks the first time in his career he has been held pointless in the postseason.
Malkin helped Russia capture gold at last year’s world’s registering two goals and an assist in four games.
