Former Maple Leafs and Rangers forward Andre Deveaux has reportedly had his contract with Swedish team Rogle terminated following an ugly pregame incident last Thursday.

Deveaux, 31, took a vicious chop at Vasteras IK’s Per Helmersson prior to a match that decided promotion to the SHL’s top flight, as seen here:

There was no penalty on the “play” and Rogle proceeded to win, moving up to the first division in the process. But since the clip went viral, responses have been swift; Rogle terminated the contract and Deveaux issued an apology to Helmersson.

Update: Various commenters have asked what led to Deveaux’s slash -- per a hasty Google translation of a Swedish media piece, Deveaux was upset at Helmersson for a hit in a previous Rogle-Vasteras game.
