San Jose will be without rookie d-man Mirco Mueller for the rest of its seven-game road trip, and possibly beyond.
Mueller’s left hand/wrist area was significantly wrapped on Friday [after blocking a shot versus Detroit last night], as the Sharks prepare to face the Flyers on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.
Todd McLellan said: “He injured himself last night in Detroit. Didn’t return to the game. We finished the night with five [defensemen], and he’ll be out for a little while.”
Will he miss the rest of the season?
“I don’t know that time frame,” McLellan said. “It will be awhile. He won’t play again on this trip, and then we’ll see when we get home.”
Mueller, 20, has a goal and four points in 39 games this year, his first with the Sharks after being taken 18th overall at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. San Jose is still mathematically alive in the Western Conference playoff chase, but will likely miss the postseason for the first time since 2003.
