One of just 25 members of the Triple Gold Club called it a career on Thursday, as longtime NHLer Mikael Samuelsson announced his retirement from hockey.

Samuelsson, 38, scored 149 goals and 346 games in 699 career contests with the Sharks, Rangers, Penguins, Panthers, Red Wings and Canucks. After bouncing around the league for the early parts of his career, Samuelsson really developed his niche in both Detroit and Vancouver, emerging as a quality shooter and solid playoff performer.

In 2008, he helped Detroit capture its last Stanley Cup by scoring 13 points in 22 playoff games. In 2010, he enjoyed a tremendous postseason run with Vancouver, scoring eight goals and 15 points in 12 games (this after scoring a career-high 30 goals during the regular season.)

Samuelsson was also decorated internationally, helping Sweden capture gold at both the 2006 Winter Olympics and World Championships.

Samuelsson’s last NHL campaign came in 2013-14, when he appeared in 26 games for Detroit. He spent this season playing for Djurgarden of the Swedish Hockey League, finishing with 13 goals and 26 points in 37 games.
