The 2014-15 NHL season is not ending well for Flyers coach Craig Berube.

His team is losing, with practically zero chance of making the playoffs. There’s been tension with his No. 1 goalie, the outspoken Steve Mason.

And that’s led to the predictable questions about Berube’s future behind Philadelphia’s bench.

Also, the predictable answers.

“I don’t approach it all and I can’t control that,” Berube said, per CSN Philly, when asked if he’d thought about the prospect of getting fired.

“I do what I do. I like what I do.”

But does Flyers GM Ron Hextall like what Berube does? As has been noted numerous times by the Philly media, Berube was not Hextall’s choice for the job of head coach. It was Paul Holmgren who made that call, back in 2013, when Peter Laviolette was fired. Hextall was promoted to the GM role half a year later.

Add to that the handful of accomplished coaches who may become available this summer, from Mike Babcock to Todd McLellan, and it’s no wonder Berube’s job status has come into question.
