Dave Lowry, who appeared in over 1,000 games during his 19-season NHL career, was named head coach of Canada’s team at the 2016 World Juniors, Hockey Canada announced on Monday.

Lowry, 50, is currently the head coach of WHL Victoria. Prior to taking that gig, he spent three years as an assistant coach of the Calgary Flames; Lowry also spent time as an assistant and head coach of WHL Calgary.

The rest of Canada’s coaching staff will be comprised of two QMJHL coaches -- Halifax’s Dom Ducharme, Drummondville’s Martin Raymond -- and D.J. Smith, the head coach of OHL Oshawa.

Led by head coach Benoit Groulx, Canada captured the 2015 World Juniors in Toronto and Montreal, the country’s first gold medal since 2009. The 2016 edition of the tournament will be held in Helsinki, Finland.
