Playing in his second game for his new team, the Chicago Blackhawks, Antoine Vermette scored the winning goal in the shootout Friday.

The Blackhawks, down 1-0 through two periods, got a late third-period goal from Brent Seabrook and Vermette scored the lone goal in the skills competition in a 2-1 shootout win for Chicago.

The Blackhawks acquired Vermette from the Arizona Coyotes just prior to the trade deadline.

Corey Crawford made 46 saves, and Edmonton was unsuccessful in all three of its shootout attempts, for the win.

The Blackhawks are now six points back of the Nashville Predators, losers of five straight, for the Central Division.

“You always think it’s up for grabs,” Patrick Sharp told the Chicago Tribune.

“There are a lot of great teams in the Central but if you look at how things played out last year … St. Louis was doing well all season long and Colorado caught them the last week. You never know what happens. We are watching the standings. You do all season long, all 82 games, but the most important thing is how you’re playing as a team and that’s what we’re more focused on right now.”
