Trade: Rangers acquire Sheppard from San Jose

The New York Rangers have acquired forward James Sheppard from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.

According to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Sharks retained $100,000 in salary in the trade.

The 26-year-old is on a one-year, $1.3 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Sheppard had five goals and 16 points in 57 games with the Sharks this season.

Its been a busy day for the Rangers who acquired Keith Yandle from the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday afternoon.

New York also dealt Lee Stempniak to the Winnipeg Jets.

Additionally, Rangers are reportedly nearing a multi-year extension for Mats Zuccarello.
