Defenseman Mark Pysyk appears to be okay after collapsing during a pickup basketball game with other AHL Rochester teammates on Saturday, Sabres coach Ted Nolan told the Buffalo News.

Pysyk, who was recently sent to the minors by Buffalo, was assessed by paramedics after his collapse. The 23-year-old defenseman was “fairly alert and his vital signs were close to normal” when he was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. Pysyk spent several hours in the hospital, but has since been released.

Nolan said there is no history of medical problems that he was aware of or prior indication that there was an issue.

Prior to this incident, Pysyk played in the Rochester Americans’ 4-3 overtime loss against Toronto on Friday. Pysyk has three goals and 16 points in 51 AHL contests and another three points in seven contests with Buffalo in 2014-15.

He will undergo further tests on Sunday, per Sportsnet’s John Shannon.
