Verdict in Voynov case ‘won’t determine’ his playing status

Slava Voynov

We wrote yesterday about Slava Voynov, surmising that, even if he were found not guilty of the domestic violence charges he’s facing, his future with the Los Angeles Kings would remain cloudy.

Today, in an email to The Hockey News, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly provided confirmation of that.

“Mr. Voynov’s ongoing legal process is separate and distinct from the process the League has to go through to determine his playing status,” Daly wrote.

“Therefore, the conclusion of the former may impact on, but won’t determine the latter. In short, the Player’s status will remain status quo until we have had an adequate opportunity to complete our process, evaluate the relevant facts and circumstances, and make an appropriate determination.”

Voynov has been suspended indefinitely since Oct. 20.
