The Anaheim Ducks are hoping a game against their crosstown rivals can jolt them out of their stupor.

“Win, lose or whatever happens, it’s a matter of getting on the ice and competing and competing as a group,” captain Ryan Getzlaf told the O.C. Register ahead of tonight’s home game versus the Los Angeles Kings.

“There’s nobody that brings that out of us more than them.”

The Ducks have been playing their worst hockey of the season of late, going 6-7-1 in their last 14, and arguably lucky the record hasn’t been worse.

Their last outing was a 3-0 home loss to Ottawa that left coach Bruce Boudreau expressing the need to “pull our heads out of our butts” before taking on the Kings.

“It’s a great test to play a team at Stanley Cup-caliber to see where you stand,” he told the Register. “That’s to me what the test is about – whether we’re out of it. If we can’t get up emotionally for that game, then I think we have to take a deeper look at ourselves.”
