Avs lose d-man Barrie (hip flexor) for tonight’s game versus Wings

Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie has a hip flexor ailment and will miss tonight’s game versus the Red Wings (on NBCSN).

The injury, however, is not considered serious and Colorado coach Patrick Roy expects Barrie to be able to play Saturday in Minnesota.

Stefan Elliott will draw into the lineup for Barrie, who leads all Colorado d-men with 30 points (5G, 25A).

Barrie has not missed a game all season and averages 20:45 in ice time, so his absence will be felt tonight.

Depending what happens between the Sharks and Canucks in Vancouver, the Avs could move to within two points of a playoff spot with a win over the Wings.

Or, they could lose and fall six points behind.
