Bogosian vows to be more disciplined following Saturday’s benching

Zach Bogosian played less than 10 minutes during Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Dallas -- benched after taking a pair of slashing penalties -- and afterward, the Jets d-man took full responsibility for getting bolted to the pine.

“I let my emotions get the best of me,” Bogosian said on Sunday, per the Free Press. “Sometimes those things happen. And the minute it happens, you wish it didn’t happen.

“Somebody has to be held accountable. It was 100 per cent on me. I screwed up.”

The decision to park Bogosian (he played just 49 seconds in the middle frame after his second trip to the box) was the type of message sending we haven’t seen much from Paul Maurice lately. The Jets’ bench boss had been happy with his club’s play prior to the All-Star break -- the Jets were on a five-game winning streak -- but, since returning, Winnipeg has lost three straight and has been leaky defensively.

The Jets have allowed 15 goals over the losing skid and have been dreadful on the penalty kill, allowing seven tallies with the man advantage. That’s partly why Maurice was so infuriated with Bogosian’s lack of discipline; the Stars scored on his second penalty, one of their four power-play markers on the evening.

“He was the guy who took the penalty at that time,” Maurice explained. “We don’t need that in our game.”
