Like the New York Rangers on Thursday, the Washington Capitals couldn’t solve Canadiens goaltender Carey Price in a 1-0 overtime loss to Montreal.

Washington outshot Montreal 17-6 in the second period, but Price stood tall throughout the game, turning aside 36 straight shots before Max Pacioretty finally broke the scoreless tie 3:08 minutes into overtime:

Price has had some effective seasons in the past, but this has the potential to be his best as he currently has a 27-10-2 record, 2.03 GAA, and. 933 save percentage in 39 contests. Thanks in large part to his efforts, Montreal has now won five straight games to improve to 32-13-3 this season.

That’s good enough to leapfrog the Canadiens into first place in the Eastern Conference, although that position might not last the day. If the Tampa Bay Lightning manage to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight, then the Lightning will regain their former position atop the conference standings.
