The New York Islanders remain in a fight for top spot in the Eastern Conference, but one of those teams they’re now in pursuit of, the Detroit Red Wings, got the better of them Saturday.
The Red Wings skated to a 4-1 victory over the Islanders, who have now lost two consecutive games, falling two points back of first place in the conference.
The result had Islanders head coach Jack Capuano a little miffed with the effort of some of his players afterward.
“I didn’t see the grit and determination from some guys that you need and that we’re going to need in the second half here,” said Capuano, as per Newsday Long Island.
“We gave them (13) shots five on five. It’s not about structure. You want this to be a bit of a wakeup call.”
Capuano said he was "pretty p---ed right now" about couple players' effort. Grabner and Nielsen had just 9:05 and 9:46 at EV.
