St. Louis squandered an early 2-0 lead, but Kevin Shattenkirk scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Blues edged the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 Friday night.

With the win, the Blues have won four straight and have points in 10 consecutive games (9-0-1).

The loss saw Carolina’s three-game win streak come to an end.

Ryan Reaves and David Backes scored on the Blues first three shots of the game chasing Canes’ starter Anton Khudobin 3:25 into the first period.

Justin Faulk and Ryan Murphy scored for the Canes tying it 2-2.

Cam Ward, who picked up the loss, made 29 saves in relief of Khudobin.

The game nearly didn’t get to overtime.

With 6:34 remaining in the third, Brett Bellemore caught Jake Allen napping and put his dump-in off the post.

Allen made 26 saves and improved to 14-5-2 on the season.
