‘Definitive’ news on Timonen coming soon -- what if he comes back?

It sound as if we’ll know more about Kimmo Timonen’s hockey-playing future soon.

“I would say we’re probably looking at days now where we’ll have something definitive,” Flyers GM Ron Hextall said, per CSN Philly.

Timonen has not played this season due to blood clots. The well-regarded 39-year-old defenseman is a pending unrestricted free agent with a $2 million cap hit.

“We’ll have to make a move if Kimmo comes back,” Hextall said, per the Inquirer.

But with the Flyers 10 points back of Boston for the second wild-card spot, Philadelphia’s playoff chances are slim. If Timonen comes back, might the move Hextall makes be to trade the veteran blue-liner prior to the March 2 deadline and allow him the opportunity to play for a contender?

We’re probably getting ahead of the process here. (Though, for the record, we heard that rumor this past weekend in Columbus.)

“There’s a process with a number of things, and getting doctors together with trainers, Kimmo, the league,” Hextall said.

“There’s a lot of different avenues we have to explore here.”
