Earlier today, we passed along news that Columbus lost yet another player to injury -- this time, forward Jeremy Morin, who was placed on IR with an upper-body injury.

Now, we’re learning the situation was more serious than first thought. From the Dispatch:

Morin was taken by ambulance to Grant Medical Center during the second intermission of a game on Tuesday in Nationwide Arena after complaining of an accelerated heart rate that wouldn’t slow.

“His resting heart rate wasn’t going down,” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. “It’s nothing serious. I’m not sure he’s if he’s going to need further tests or not, but everything was fine. His heart rate calmed while he was being tested at the hospital.”

Kekalainen expected Morin to be released from the hospital today. The club placed him on injured reserve, however, meaning he can’t play another game for at least a week.

It was unclear if Morin has had this experience earlier in his career, Kekalainen said.

Morin, 23, exited Tuesday’s 4-3 win over Washington after just 7:11 of ice time. The former Blackhawk had appeared in 17 games this year for Columbus, scoring three points.

Kekalainen told the Dispatch he’s known several hockey players that’ve had a similar issue with accelerated heart rates -- including his brother, Janne -- but noted that Morin will undergo further testing before he’s cleared to return.

“We don’t know if it’s a one-time thing with Jeremy or not,” Kekalainen explained. “We took him to the hospital as a precaution, just to make sure. He’s going to be monitored.

“We’ll have to make sure he’s OK before he plays again. The health of the players is the most important thing.”
