Jaroslav Halak was 8.1 seconds away from his second shutout victory over the New York Rangers in two weeks.

Halak made 40 saves as the Islanders defeated the Rangers 4-1 Tuesday night.

The Islanders have now won three straight over the Rangers this season.

Mikhail Grabovski, Matt Martin, Ryan Strome and John Tavares scored for the Islanders, who moved seven points ahead of the Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.

Grabovski returned to the Islanders lineup after missing five games with a lower body injury and took the spot of Kyle Okposo, who is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with an upper body injury.

Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk had two assists in the win.

Henrik Lundqvist made 34 saves in the loss.

Carl Hagelin had the lone goal for the Rangers, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

The two teams meet again on Feb. 16.
