It didn’t take long for Rivalry Night to boil over in Philly.
Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding Pens d-man Kris Letang with about five minutes to go in the opening frame:
The hit will almost certainly garner a review from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. Rinaldo has a history as a repeat offender, which includes a four-game suspension for a hit to the head of Buffalo’s Chad Ruhwedel last April.
Letang left the game following the hit and didn’t return. No word yet if he’s done for the night.
