NHL on NBCSN: Pens look to avoid a sixth-straight loss to the Flyers

NBCSN will continue its coverage of the 2014-15 campaign when the Phildelphia Flyers host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Wells Fargo Center tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET tonight. In addition to NBCSN, you can also watch the game and pre-show online.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to avoid a third straight loss and keep pace with the Metropolitan Division-leading New York Islanders tonight when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers, losers of three of their last five, are coming off a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Islanders, who hold a five point lead on the Penguins.

The Penguins have lost five straight against the Flyers. Philadelphia won the only other meeting this season between the to clubs 5-3 on Oct. 22.

Philadelphia is 3-2-0 at Wells Fargo Center in 2015.

The Flyers suffered further blows to its’ blue line losing Nick Schultz and Carlo Colaiacovo to upper body injuries on Monday. Brandon Manning and Oliver Lauridsen were recalled from the American Hockey League and could play tonight.

Pittsburgh enters tonight’s action following a loss 6-3 at the Islanders last Friday and 5-2 defeat to the New York Rangers on Sunday.

Captain Sidney Crosby has four goals and four assists in his past four games and defenseman Kris Letang has a goal and six assists during a four-game point streak. In 23 career games at Wells Fargo Center Evgeni Malkin has 13 goals and 30 points.

Flyers winger Jakub Voracek had two assists against the Islanders increasing his NHL lead in points (55) to three over the Dallas Stars’ Tyler Seguin. Voracek’s 38 assists are two more than Crosby for the league lead.

The Penguins recalled forward Bobby Farnham from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. Farnham made his NHL debut on Dec. 13 and has appeared in 10 games this season with Pittsburgh averaging 7:22 in ice time to go along with 19 penalty minutes.

It’s uncertain at this point who will start in goal tonight. Both Marc-Andre Fleury and Rob Zepp were pulled from their last starts. Fleury allowed four goals on 17 shots before being pulled Sunday against the Rangers. Zepp allowed four goals on 20 shots before being pulled Monday.

Tuesday’s game marks the first of two games in hand the Penguins have on the Islanders.

The two clubs meet twice more this season with the next game coming April 1 in Pittsburgh.

Tonight marks the Flyers’ final game prior to the all star break while the Penguins play host to the Blackhawks Wednesday prior to the break.
