The Dallas Stars are hoping backup goalie Anders Lindback can build on Tuesday’s solid relief performance versus Ottawa.

Lindback is expected to start tonight at home to Winnipeg. Against the Sens, he replaced Kari Lehtonen and stopped 34 of 36 shots as the Stars fought back from a pair of two-goal deficits to win 5-4.

For Lindback, who’s mostly struggled quite badly this season, it’s an opportunity to start an important game against a Jets side that blew out Florida, 8-2, on Tuesday.

“It’s a really big game for us, especially here before the break,” Lindback said, per the Dallas Morning News.

If the Stars win, it’s possible they could draw to within two points of the second wild-card spot, currently occupied by Vancouver. (The Canucks are in Philadelphia to play the Flyers tonight.)

But if the Stars lose, it’s possible they could fall six points out of a playoff spot. And if they lose outright, they’ll definitely be nine points back of Winnipeg for fourth in the Central.

“We really need these points,” said Lindback. “We need to really do whatever it takes to be ready to go from the start and play all the game through.”
