The NHL named one of its two replacement goalies for the 2015 All-Star Game on Thursday, announcing that Islanders netminder Jaroslav Halak would replace the injured Jimmy Howard.

Halak’s certainly deserving of the honor. The 29-year-old has been a rock in goal for the Eastern Conference’s top team this season, going 23-8-0 with a .917 save percentage and 2.22 GAA. Halak also sits third in the league in shutouts, with four.

This marks the first time Halak’s ever been named to an All-Star Game and gives the Isles two participants in Columbus, as captain John Tavares will also be part of the annual gala.

As mentioned above, the NHL will need to find another goalie replacement as well; today, Nashville announced that Pekka Rinne would be held out of the next three games and the ASG due to a sprained knee, and would be re-evaluated following the break. The list of potential replacement candidates includes Washington’s Braden Holtby, Pittsburgh’s Marc-Andre Fleury and Anaheim’s Frederik Andersen.
