The St. Louis Blues announced today that goalie Martin Brodeur has been granted a one-week leave of absence from the team.

According to the club’s release, “Brodeur will rejoin the club in one week and his future will be addressed at that time.”

It’s not clear what exactly led to Brodeur’s request for the leave of absence, but with starter Brian Elliott healthy again and backup Jake Allen on the roster as well, regular playing time for the 42-year-old future Hall of Famer was going to be tough to come by.

Brodeur has gone 3-3-0 with a .899 save percentage for the Blues. He last appeared in a game on Jan. 2.
