For the second time this season, a player in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization has been suspended 20 games for violating terms of a performance-enhancing substances program.

In November, it was Leafs forward Carter Ashton who was suspended by the NHL. This time, it’s Toronto Marlies forward Brad Ross, with the AHL announcing the ban today.

Like Ashton, Ross is maintaining he did not knowingly break the rules.

Ross will be eligible to play again on Mar. 8 when the Marlies host Utica.

In the meantime, expect plenty of questions to be asked of the Leafs. One suspension for PEDs is one thing. Two, you kind of start to wonder.

Update:

Statement from the Leafs:

“The Toronto Maple Leafs organization supports the AHL Substance Abuse Program and today’s decision to suspend forward Brad Ross.

“Our organization is diligent in its work to only provide our athletes supplements approved by the Banned Substance Control Group, and we’ve stressed the importance of staying within these parameters to maintain the integrity of what goes into their bodies. We are disappointed with Brad and fully support today’s suspension.”
