Having lost rookie scorer Tanner Pearson and six of their last eight games, the L.A. Kings made an intriguing call-up on Monday, summoning Nick Shore from AHL Manchester.

Shore, the club’s third-round pick at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, is in the midst of a tremendous campaign with the Monarchs. At the time of his recall, Shore was tied for first in the AHL in goals (20), tied for third in power play goals (7), sat alone in first in shorthanded goals (3), second in points (41) and tied for ninth in assists (21); he was also recently named to his first AHL All-Star game.

The 22-year-old should get plenty of immediate opportunities in the Kings lineup. Pearson is out with a fractured fibula while fellow rookie Tyler Toffoli was recently diagnosed with mono.

In fact, Shore will likely get a crack at his NHL debut tonight, when the Leafs head into town for their first game of the season at Staples.
