Alexander Semin has been activated from injured reserve and will make his return to the Hurricanes lineup tonight when Carolina visits the New York Rangers.

Semin has missed five games with a lower body injury.

The 30-year-old has just one goal and six points in 21 games this season. He’s been a healthy scratch on multiple occasions.

Semin had just one goal and a minus-3 rating in eight games prior to the injury.

He is in the second year of a five-year, $35 million deal, which will keep him in Carolina through the 2017-18 season.

In a separate transaction, the Hurricanes reassigned forward Justin Shugg to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.
