San Jose associate coach Larry Robinson is in his final year behind the bench.

Robinson, who this past May signed a three-year extension with the club, won’t be serve as a game-day coach next season, part of his transition into a player development and consulting role while working remotely.

Here’s more, from a Q&A conducted with Yahoo:

Would you like to coach in Montreal?

Robinson: I’m at the end of my career, I’ve done everything I wanted to do. I think now and even more so after this past week and half where we have lost so many great people in the sport, it’s time I start thinking more about my family than winning a 10th cup. Hopefully I can fulfil that dream this year but there are 29 other teams thinking the same thing.

This will be the last year that I spend behind the bench coaching, I have two more years with the Sharks in a player development/consultant role and I will work out of my house in Florida.

If anything, this is confirmation of what many expected to happen. The plan of transitioning Robinson from coach to consultant was made public upon him signing his extension; in the same interview, the 63-year-old called his time as New Jersey’s head coach “very stressful.”

“I put so much pressure on myself that I started to make myself sick- -- it was time to get away,” he explained of his 2005 departure from the Devils. “I’m hard on myself, it’s hard for me when I’m in a position of coach or as an assistant, it’s hard for me not to take it home.”
