Matthias upset with league’s lack of explanation on Robidas hit

Matthias

Hockey is a tough game and injuries happen.

Sometimes the calls don’t go your way.

Canucks forward Shawn Matthias knows that. Every hockey player does.

At the same time, without being labeled a whiner, Matthias would sure like to know how Toronto’s Stephane Robidas got away with nothing but a minor penalty for this:

Matthias suffered a head injury on the play and missed Sunday’s game in Ottawa. He remains questionable to return tonight in Montreal.

Robidas, meanwhile, did not receive a disciplinary hearing with the NHL.

Which didn’t sit well with Matthias.

“If we say anything we’re looked upon as complainers,” said Matthias, per The Province. “I don’t know why that is. They were hits to the head — blatant hits to my head and there was no call. Nothing. We asked the league for an explanation why and they have yet to tell us anything, so that’s a little disappointing. I have respect for what the league says and Robidas did text me and we exchanged a few messages. I respect that.”

The injury was especially frustrating for Matthias, who, after a tough start to the season, had been on a real hot streak, scoring four goals in the five games before the one in Toronto.
