Last week, we passed along word that the NHL still expected a “healthy rise” in the salary cap for the 2015-16 season.

Today, via ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun, we’ll pass along word that said rise could lead to a ceiling of “somewhere between $72 million and $74 million, up from the current $69 million.”

That would be good news for teams like the Chicago Blackhawks, who have already made significant cap commitments for 2015-16, with players still left to sign.

The potentially bad news for the ‘Hawks is that, according to LeBrun, the current projection assumes there “isn’t any significant change (downward) in the Canadian dollar between now and June 30,” and the loonie continues to fall today as oil prices do the same.
