Kyle Palmieri’s winner in Anaheim’s 4-3 overtime victory over Winnipeg might not be a goal of the year candidate, but it is one of the most surprising ways to end the game.

Palmieri was in a very difficult position to score a goal, but he flung the puck towards the net anyways and managed to beat netminder Ondrej Pavelec top shelf.

“I was just shooting at the net,” Palmieri said, per the Ducks’ Twitter feed. “I got lucky. I saw him cheating a little down and got it past.”

His efforts salvaged the game for Anaheim after Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba scored with just 4:45 minutes left in the third period to force overtime. The silver lining for Winnipeg is that it has now recorded at least a point in six straight contests. Anaheim has won four consecutive games.
