Yesterday, the Wild held Ryan Suter out of their game against Montreal for fear he’d contracted the mumps.

Today, those fears were realized:

There is a silver lining for Minnesota; per Russo, head coach Mike Yeo said Suter is “feeling better” today and didn’t rule out the No. 1 defenseman for tomorrow’s game against Anaheim.

Based on history, though, that’s a pretty optimistic view.

Mumps have worked their way through almost all of the Wild’s defense, sidelining Marco Scandella, Jonas Brodin, Keith Ballard and Christian Folin at different stages of the season. Ballard and Brodin were hardest hit, missing eight and seven games, while Folin also took a long time to recover and missed five contests as a result.

Scandella had the quickest recovery, missing just a pair of games.
