Penguins defenseman Robert Bortuzzo has been suspended two games for a “late, violent hit” that he delivered to “defenseless” Devils forward Jaromir Jagr during last night’s game in Pittsburgh.

In making its ruling, the NHL deemed that Bortuzzo made the check “well after” Jagr released the puck and, in making the case for supplementary discipline, cited the hit’s “extreme lateness, its predatory nature, and the significant head contact that results from the way it is delivered.”
